The positions of President and Executive Vice President of the Student Government Association are elected annually by the Student Body in a process called the Direct Election. To run in the Direct Election for one of these positions, please review the governing rules prescribed in the Direct Elections Manual. All candidates shall adhere to this Manual. As per the Student Government Association Bylaws;

1. A candidate for President must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student and be in good academic standing, throughout the campaign period, as defined by the Undergraduate Student Handbook;

  • Complete an Intent to Run form as prescribed by the Direct Elections Manual;

  • Attend the Candidates Briefing with one campaign worker as prescribed by the Direction Election Manual, unless excused by the Elections Committee;

2. Any candidate for office is required to have spent a minimum number of weeks on the roster respective to the position for which they intend to run, prior to their nomination, not including intersessions or time spent on the inactive roster.

  • Candidates for President must have been on one or more Association rosters for a total of twenty-five weeks;

  • Candidates for Executive Vice President must have had Senatorial status for twenty-five weeks;


Each eligible individual must complete and submit an Intent to Run Form to be nominated.

Additionally, eligible individuals must run on a Slate consisting of one President and one Executive Vice President. The individuals of a Slate must together complete and submit a Slate Declaration Form.

Both the Intent to Run and Slate Declaration Forms must be submitted to the Chair by February 18th to qualify for nomination. All forms will be verified by Elections Committee. Upon approval, each potential candidate may be nominated independently at the Full-Body Senate held at 7:00pm on February 26th in the Senate Chambers, 333 Curry.

Nominated candidates must submit a Candidate Information Sheet and an official full list of Campaign Workers to the Elections Chair by 9:59pm on February 27th.

February 19th - Intent to Run and Slate Declaration Forms due to Elections Chair by 11:59pm

Week of February 19th - (Potential) candidate Forms appeals process

February 26th - Full-Body Senate at which candidates shall be nominated; Candidates Briefing will be held immediately following Senate

February 27th - Candidate Information Sheet and official full list of Campaign Workers due to Elections Chair by 9:59pm

March 12th - Pure Campaign Period begins

March 14th - Direct Elections Committee Education Event (further information TBD by Committee)

March 15th - Voting Period begins at 12am, ballot becomes available on MyNortheastern

March 22nd - Voting Period ends at 11:59pm, ballot is removed from MyNortheastern

March 26th - Full-Body Senate at which election results shall be announced
