SGA Releases Internal Budget for 2020 Fiscal Year

BOSTON, June 12, 2019  —  Continuing SGA’s openness with the student body and Northeastern community, SGA is sharing our annual budget allocated from the Finance Board for the 2019-2020 academic year.

This past April, SGA announced the Senate voted to decrease its annual budget by 48%. Some of the budget cuts passed included ending stipends for SGA leadership and cutting giveaways following the new Student Activity Fund manual.

SGA requested $29,591.61 from the Finance Board for the 2020 Fiscal Year and was allocated $18,441.61. This amount is 62% of the requested budget and the Association will not be appealing this decision. Some of the cuts came in the line items of Food with $8,400 requested and $3,000 received, and Lodging and Travel for our Annual Fall Retreat which was cut altogether.

SGA’s budget for the 2020 Fiscal Year is less than one-third of its previous budget of the 2019 Fiscal Year. The Association plans to change the Senate Fall Retreat to service days throughout the year. If there is food for Senate meetings, the expense will come out of the Association’s cash account and no longer from the Student Activity Fund. SGA will continue to work with undergraduate students and impact their daily lives, all the while operating with a decreased budget of over 67% in one year.
